GLT COVID-19 PHASE PLAN
Before describing the phases, it is important that we briefly discuss the potential issues with singing. Studies have shown that the transmission of the COVID-19 virus is much more likely in an enclosed space with a significant amount of speaking. This danger is magnified considerably when the people are singing, making even open spaces more hazardous. It is therefore very possible that as we do begin gathering in-person again the most challenging activities to return to will be those involving singing. We know that singing together is a visceral part of Judaism and that abstaining from it for so long will be difficult, but there is no greater purpose in Judaism than to preserve life and that must be what we keep uppermost in mind as we persevere through this period of time.
